If you’re a parent or are thinking of becoming one, check out this piece that appeared on CNN. It’s all about the harmful chemicals found in paints and glues that are in certain children’s toys. It also discusses pesticides and fertilizers that are in food products… the first two on the list were milk and beef. And what about the moisturizing creams that absorb into your baby’s skin? If you take away anything, the most important thing they say is to buy your child an organic crib mattress. Most crib mattresses are made out of polyurethane which is a petroleum product that is known to out-gas. And since we’re on the subject, if you’re expecting or are thinking of becoming preggers, check out this book as well, it’ll change your life!

Yes, I most certainly agree that all parents should buy an organic mattress for their babies, since there has been so much research uncovered about how cheap or secondhand mattresses can really harm a baby. From skin irritants to allergies to even the increased risk of SIDS, it’s pretty scary to think how something as simple as a crib mattress can work against you when your baby is trying to get a good night’s sleep.
Before I had my precious Harry (who’s growing up before my very eyes!), I did plenty of research on crib mattresses, and what to look for to ensure that I was buying a quality mattress that would help Harry (and myself!) get a decent night’s sleep. After much research, I came across the Crib Mattress Guide , which I believe is the ultimate guide that every new parent needs before they go out shopping for that new crib mattress. I highly recommend it, so go check it out before you drive to your nearest nursery store!
